"With her first release, Gagné establishes herself as a polished and more than competent Fifties- and Sixties- styled piano player, well versed in the various streams of post-bop piano from Bobby Timmons to Bill Evans to, well, Kenny Barron".

"Not many piano players have the good fortune that they can record their debut CD with the dream rhythm team of bassist Peter Washington and drummer Lewis Nash who happened to be members of the renowned trio of piano legend Tommy Flanagan. The young pianist and composer Chantale Gagné from Quebec/Canada lives up to this accolade. She has the technical abilities, the creativity and the swing. In the first song, her composition "Second Wave", she shines with runs full of surprises over the driving beat of the rhythm section. In the quiet "Tranquilité" she combines emotional introspection with exquisit touch. While "But Beautiful" stays on the safe side, she uses Monk's well-known composition "I Mean You" for quickly taking off into an improvisation all her own. There is hope for the classic piano trio beyond Bill Charlap."

" Gagné plays with a clear, assertive touch and a balanced, intelligent sense of form..."
" Her slower stuff is stronger (...) sustain intense, quiet reveries as they patiently unfold their stories."
- Thomas Comrad, Jazz Times Magazine, March 2009

I have to say that this recording is simply superb from first to last. Ms Gagne and her two associates, Peter Washington and Lewis Nash have combined to produce Jazz of the utmost quality. The playing and Musicianship are outstanding, the tracks composed by Ms Gagne are bright, sharp, concise and highly melodic. Arrangements and Production are first class, and the entire recording is a pleasure to listen to. Rhythmic and melodic and played with excellent interplay, as the old saying goes, there is no substitute for class.

Chantale "Silent Strength" is certainly an interesting title for this cd. The underlying strength is very evident once the cd is played and that underlying strength is your virtuoso performance at your piano. Ably assisted by Peter Washington and Lewis Nash every track is sublimely beautiful that oozes sophistication. One can't help when listening to "Silent Strength" to sit quietly and immerse oneself in the grooves that unveil track after track. Whether a Thelonius Mionk composition or your extremely beautiful compositions this cd is one of pure quality. Congratulations on a wonderful cd.
